Resistance bands can often be overlooked for strength training, frequently getting passed over for free weight options. It is a shame, because resistance bands can be such a great tool in so many different ways.
Resistance bands can be more versatile than a set of dumbbells, and because they are cheaper, more portable and lightweight it is certainly easier to travel with them for those limiting hotel room workouts on-the-go. If you aren't incorporating bands into your current workout regimen you are definitely missing out of that aspect of functional fitness.
Can you do a full-body workout with one resistance band?
Yes! Try this 20 minute circuit with intervals of 30 seconds work and 15 seconds rest. Try to keep your intensity up for the full 30 second intervals and don't worry about counting reps.
- Shoulder press
- Seated Rows
- Standing Biceps Curl
- Split Squats
- Overhead Triceps Extensions
- Chest Press
You can also use both bands and weights simultaneously. When you lift weights the load never changes, but if you loop bands on your bar, the bands will increase in resistance as they stretch . . . then as you apex out and begin the eccentric negative motion, the bands will be pulling the bar down toward you, putting you in the position where the control of the negative becomes harder and more effective.
Remember, not all resistance bands are created equally. The band needs to be able to tolerate the amount of stress that you plan on subjecting to it.
